Timberwolf Organics
From LoveToKnow Organic
Timberwolf Organics is a highly-concentrated formula designed to be a superior pet food.
About Timberwolf Organics
Timberwolf is located in Orlando, Florida and considered one of the leaders in organic pet food. The company’s website is packed with information about their special formulas, comparison charts, myths surrounding pet foods, the controversial wild diet, and feeding charts.
2008 Dakota Bisbane and Ocean Blue Recalls
In 2008, there was a voluntary pet food recall in which Timberwolf participated. The FDA’s findings revealed nothing for which customers should be alarmed.
As a direct result of this June 2008 recall, Timberwolf Organics moved its manufacturing operations into a new facility and instituted preventative measures. New quality control methods include testing every thirty minutes during the production process and random sampling of formula ratios.
However, the company is still fielding inquiries about the June 2008 recall of two products, Dakota Bisbane and Ocean Blue because the 2008 recall notice is still circulating the internet. You can read the notice online.
Diamond Pet Foods and Timberwolf
Many people incorrectly believe that Timberwolf Organics is owned by Diamond Pet Foods. This confusion is understandable since Diamond Pet Foods once manufactured some of Timberwolf’s formulas. Timberwolf however is a privately-owned company and is no longer associated with Diamond Pet Foods.
Mad Cow Disease Contamination Risk Eliminated
Timberwolf has taken extreme measures to ensure your pet is not in danger of contracting Mad Cow Disease by eliminating the risk of BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy), better known as Mad Cow Disease, contamination. Timberwolf discontinued use of beef, beef fat and beef byproducts in the manufacturing of pet food formulas.
In addition, you won’t find any ethoxyquin, which is a pet food preservative used to keep the fats and oils from going rancid. Ethoxyquin is also used as a pesticide. BHA (Butylated hydroxyanisole) and BHT (Butylated hydroxytoluene), two other preservatives, aren’t used in Timberwolf pet foods.
Certifications
The Timberwolf facility is inspected by the USDA. It’s one of the few manufacturers that is APHIS (Agricultural Plant Health Inspection Service) certified. Timberwolf holds an APHIS Category III level certification. The Category III certification is necessary in order to qualify as an exporter due to the threat of BSE.
Ingredients of Timberwolf Pet Foods

Timberwolf uses chicken, fish, and lamb meals. These meals are high in the following nutrients:
- Calcium
- Magnesium
- Potassium
- Essential fatty acids
- Amino acids
- Manganese
- Vitamins.
Hormone and Steroid Free
All poultry used in the production of Timberwolf pet food are organic; free of pesticides, steroids and hormones. The feed used for the poultry is human grade and contains no waste or GMOs (genetically modified organisms). In addition all fish oils are supplied by companies that are USDA/NMFS/APHIS approved.
Limited Whole Grains
Timberwolf Organics formulas use only small amounts of whole grains to reduce the risk of a diet too high in fiber. A high-fiber diet can prevent healthy weight maintenance as your pet ages. The twice-milled grains are added to the formula immediately after being ground. This assures the grain is fresh, doesn’t lose important nutrients, and doesn't have time to become rancid.
Since the whole grain is used all of the following are included in the food for optimum nutrition:
- Germ
- Bran
- Middling
- Endosperm
Shelf Life
Timberwolf’s dry food is protected by an oxygen barrier designed to prevent oxidation. It provides a sealed, shelf-life of up to 18 months. It's recommended that once a bag of pet food is opened that it be used within two to three weeks.
Rotational Feeding for Dogs
The company recommends that you rotate each of the formulas every two to three months so that your dog receives optimum nutrition. With so much variety this is not difficult to do. The formulas for dogs are:
- Ocean Blue
- Wild and Natural
- Black Forest
- Dakota Bison
- Lamb with Apples
- Lamb with Barley
- Southwest Chicken and Herbs
- Wilderness
- Fish and Wild Rice
- Lamb and Chicken Liver
- Venison and Trout
- Pheasant and Herbs
Cat Formula
Timberwolf also manufactures an organic formula for cats. Cats’ systems don’t require the same type of rotation as dogs and therefore the company makes only one formula, Serengeti. This dry food mimics the diet of a wild cat and fulfills the requirements of your cat’s carnivorous digestive system.
