Organic Skin Cleansers

For a skin cleanser to be marked organic, the product must meet certain requirements. Ingredients such as plant extracts must be organic, with the majority of the ingredients organic. Many skin cleansers and other organic beauty products are also cruelty-free, meaning they aren’t tested on animals. If that’s a special concern, be sure to look on the product packaging or the cruelty-free mark or wording or research the product online to be sure it isn’t tested on animals.

Ingredients in Organic Skin Cleansers

Organic skin cleansers may contain fruit juice, plant and herbal extracts, vitamins, water and other ingredients. Some ingredients you may find in an organic skin cleanser include:

  • Fruit extracts: Fruit extract such as grape and red raspberry provide cleansing and toning properties. Other ingredients you might find in an organic cleanser include lemon juice and citrus fruit extracts, particularly useful for oily skin.
  • Herbs: Herbs such as calendula and lavender are antibacterial or soothing, depending upon the properties of the herbs themselves. Some plant extras are added for fragrance, such as rose oils.
  • Oils: Sunflower, almond, and olive oil may be included to provide rich moisture. Many organic skin cleansers are olive-oil based, especially organic bar soaps.
  • Water
  • Vitamins: Vitamin extracts are popular in conventional cosmetics, especially vitamin C. These may also be added to organic skin cleansers.

You can purchase a basic organic skin cleanser at the health food store or pharmacy, or make your own from herbal extracts.

Organic Skin Cleansers to Try

Several brands and types of organic skin cleansers are popular. These include:

  • The Juice Beauty natural skin care product line features simple organic skin cleansers, toners and moisturizers based on a formula that includes organic fruit juices.
  • Kiss My Face is one of the best-known organic skin care product lines in the world. Many of their products include olive oil as a main ingredient, which offers superior relief for dry skin.
  • Eminence organic skin cleansers include many ingredients and pleasing scents, such as green apple, fruit scents and more. You can find facial cleansers and body washes among their product offerings. Eminence also sells a wonderfully scented, astringent lemon cleanser that’s great for oily skin.
  • Skin Botanica provides a one-stop shop online for these brands and more, such as Suki all natural, organic skin cleansers.

Make Your Own

If you’re the crafty type, or simply want to ensure that the ingredients in your facial cleansers are organic and pure, you can make your own simple, basic organic skin cleansers at home. This recipe is messy but effect. You may not want to wash it down the sink.

You’ll need:

  • Water
  • Half-cup organic oatmeal or cornmeal
  • Organic, plain yogurt

Simply make a paste of the oatmeal or cornmeal and as much organic, plain, unsweetened yogurt as you need. Rinse your face with warm water, and smooth the paste on. Gently rub it into the skin in small circles, avoiding the delicate eye area. Rinse off and pat your skin dry.

Some people who make their own beauty products at home swear by plain milk as an effective organic skin cleanser. If you’d like to try it, simply use a bit of organic milk and either rinse your face in it alone or use water, milk, and rinse again.

Although many natural beauty experts talk about using lemon juice or other fruit juices, others caution against them as organic cleansers. The acidic juices on their own may be too harsh and burn the skin. It’s probably best to purchase a commercially-made organic skin cleanser that contains lemon juice or citrus extracts if you’d like to try using a lemon-based cleanser.

Go Into Business

The organic skin care business is booming. Recent estimates state that in the United States alone, approximately $40 billion will be spent on organic skin care and beauty products. Organic skin care opportunities may provide you with a way to use your interest in the organic lifestyle to explore new business ventures..

I'll admit it, I no longer have the perfect skin that I had in my youth, and there are times when my skin is in distress, and in need of a good cleansing. That is when I reach for Seacret's Facial/Body Mud Soap. Made with cocoa butter, oils (palm, coconut, olive, almond, soybean, and castor), it is rich and moisturizing. However, it also includes mineral rich Dead Sea mud, and Tea Tree Oil with its potent cleansing ability.

Yeah, this is a great soap, one that contains a lot of great ingredients that will cleanse your skin, and make it truly healthy. Want to know how good this soap is? Read the ingredients! I like this soap, and highly recommend it to anyone whose skin is in need of a deep down cleaning and revitalizing.
