They are given plenty of thick, clean bedding. The hen houses have natural sunlight to help make sure that the birds are healthy. In other words, the animals are allowed to act like they would naturally.

Because the farms are small, the farmers have a better idea of the condition of each animal and are better able to care for them individually. Some of the farms have as few as 20 cows. Medical treatment is given when needed and not withheld.
