Organic Food Delivery
From LoveToKnow Organic
Organic food delivery is a quick and convenient way to start eating more organic foods. When you have organic food and other products delivered right to your door, you are more likely to use them because they will be your only option. You'll also be saved the hassle of shopping for yourself.
How Can I Get Organic Food Delivery?
Like delivery of conventional groceries, organic food delivery is not available everywhere. If you live in a small town far from an organic market, the odds are good this is not an option for you.
However, many big cities are getting local services that can provide you with organic foods delivered right to your door. If you're looking for organic food delivery in a specific location, type your city's name and organic food delivery into your favorite search engine to find out if such service is available in your area.
Some of the larger organic food delivery companies are:
- Organic to Go for catered organic meals (not groceries) (Los Angeles, Orange County and Washington State)
- Organic Delivery Company (various UK locations)
- Abel and Cole (various UK locations)
- Green Earth Organics (Vancouver and Toronto)
- Sea Breeze Organic Farm (San Diego)
- Organics Delivered (Southern Ontario)
- Door to Door Organics (New York)
- Organically Grown for You (Arizona)
- Country Organics (Redding, California)
- Guerrilla Organics (San Francisco area)
Placing an Order
Many organic food delivery companies rely on local produce for their business, so you won't be able to order anything you want. Usually these sorts of operations allow you to buy a box of a certain size, which is filled with whatever is in season that week.
This is similar to the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model, in which people buy subscriptions to a farm and then are given a certain amount of the produce. Organic food delivery is just done on a larger scale, usually with multiple farms involved.
Many smaller organic food programs involve free or cheap shipping, since they have an established route.
Other organic food delivery companies provide a wider variety of foods, including organic meats, dairy products, and baked goods.
Different companies handle orders in different ways, but usually you can order online or by phone. If the company is exclusively box delivery, all you have to do is specify the size of the box you want and how often you want one delivered.
The nice thing about many of these sites is that, while they give you access to foods you might never have tried before, you can usually specify which foods you don't like and get more of something else instead.
Nationwide Organic Delivery
There are very few organic food delivery companies that will deliver nationwide. That's because food must arrive fresh, and rapid delivery can be quite expensive.
One of the companies that does ship nationwide is Diamond Organics. This Central California company will ship your order overnight anywhere in the continental United States.
The company offers organic vegetables and fruits, meat, dairy and bakery products. There are also gift baskets, general grocery items, wine, flowers, and even take-out items like sushi and pasta.
As you can imagine, such luxury doesn't come cheap. An organic cheesecake, for instance, will run you $35 before shipping, which starts at $25 plus $1.20 per pound. At that price you would be much better off finding a local farmer's market or CSA program.
