History of Castor and Pollux

Castor and Pollux Pet Works was started by husband and wife team Shelley Gunton and Brian Connolly. Natives of Canada, their venture into the pet food business began when work relocated the couple to Hong Kong.

Beloved dog, Joey, had grown accustomed to Iams dog food, which was unavailable in Hong Kong. They began to order it from a distributor in Singapore. It wasn’t long before they had a business delivering Iams dog food to people who were impressed with the health of their pet. This prompted them to become Iams distributors in Hong Kong.

In 1993, the family sold its distributorship in Hong Kong and moved to Oregon, where they purchased a pet supply and distribution business. By 2000, they had sold that business and launched their own line of high quality pet foods. Castor and Pollux Pet Works offered the first pet food with certified organic free-range chicken--Organix.

Castor and Pollux Today

Today Castor and Pollux offers over 150 products including pet foods, pet supplies and accessories. They have also established the Pet and Soul Foundation, which helps to fund several programs to help pets and people.

They have donated 20,000 pounds of pet food to Hurricane Katrina Relief, as well as donations to Guide Dogs for the Blind, AniMeals and Project Pooch.

The company’s original product, Castor and Pollux Organic Dog Food, is a dry food made from certified organic chicken, brown rice, flaxseed, barley, peas, carrots and apples. It contains no corn, wheat or by-products and is available in four sizes:
